We arrived in Guayaquil just before midnight as our flight was delayed an hour leaving Miami. Our luggage had to be screened as well before leaving the airport so we finally were greeted by members of the Centenario Church around 1am. We drove from there to the Hotel Alexander somewhere downtown and finally settled in early in the am.
We spent time in the lobby reflecting and I shared on Mark 16, the passage that I had read the night before...focusing on v15-19 and the confidence with which we come here following Jesus’ command to go into all the world trusting that we will be used here to share the gospel, to trust God for the miraculous..changed lives are a miracle! We want to pray for healing and know that we have nothing to fear when we go in Jesus`name.
We had breakfast at the home of Dora and Carlos and he blessed me with a hat to complete my Ecuadorian transformation! Café con leche anyone?
So, from there we hooked up with Vince Vetro and Pedro and visited micro enterprise projects in a very poor area, 'En le Nueva Prosperina'. It was very inspiring to say the least and we spent a significant time with Aurelio, a man who lost one of his legs two years ago to diabetes. He shared how God has ministered so amazingly to him and he sang to us as well. Arturo, a Mexican pastor prayed into his life and it was a moving time for us. We also met a young lady who used a $150- to create a variety of disinfectants.
In the afternoon we ate lunch at a very modern mall and Pastor Walter took us to visit the church and we also changed where we are staying as they felt the location of the hotel was not safe. We are now staying in a home of one of the ladies in the church who is presently in the US.
Tonight, Lynn and I shared our testimonies with a large ´cell group´at Carlos´home and we worshipped with enthusiasm in their home with over 20 present here. It was also a mini miracle as Luis´wife who is catholic came with him tonight for the first time! Dora was very gracious in translating to us.
It was a vibrant discussion tonight on overcoming guilt and condemnation through the forgiveness of Christ. We closed the night by praying over each other in groups of two or three.
Tomorrow….3 services at the Centenario Church!!
