Day 2 Spiritually Hungry

Read Psalm 63:1=8

I remember very vividly how a pastor prayed into my life and told me that I would go to a dry and weary land to bring rivers of living water. My heart’s desire has always been to inspire people to a passionate pursuit of Jesus, a real and living experience.  It is my desire with ‘40 days of Community’ that we would push through the dryness to a place where the Lord will saturate our souls.  It has been said that it takes about 6 weeks to form a habit so as we launch into a new season, it is my prayer that this will be a season of renewal.  May we move through the discipline of meeting with God to a place where we desire God and delight in Him as David experienced.

Do you have a compulsive addiction for God?  Logic would have told Mary not to pour the year’s worth of alabaster perfume on Jesus, but passion says I can’t afford not to.  The temperature of our heart needs to be set on desperation.  God is not after performance, He is after passion.   I remember a fellow student sharing in   Bible College that God is more interested in our devotion to Him than our devotions.  Having said that, I know how important it is to set up a time of devotions to move us to the place of devotion.  Our quiet time was never meant to be an end in and of itself.

The point of getting alone with God is to open us up to the mystery, the beauty and the power  Some of us have stuffed ourselves on spiritual junk food long enough.  There’s an aching cry for something more. We approach time with God like fast food and eat on the go, but what triggers a major outbreak?  It starts with prayer, a longing, a holy discontent for the status quo.  Prayer needs to be the longing of our heart, our hunger and thirsting after righteousness.  So, what is the difference between spiritual hunger and physical hunger? The longer we go without eating physically, the greater our appetite becomes physically.  The more we don’t eat spiritually; the more we lose our appetite.  We lose our spiritual appetite by neglecting it.  When a person eats physically, He is satisfied; When a person eats in the spiritual realm, the more hungry he gets!!  So, what if I’m not hungry…force feed yourself to till the embers of your soul are set on fire.  So this exercise might seem like force feeding, but my prayer is that you will commit to this exercise for 40 days and lets see what God does in this place.  Don’t lose your appetite for God and His awesome presence, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”  We have as much of God as we want.

Jack, I was thinking about spiritual hunger just this morning as I pondered the words of Brian Doerksen's song You Are Everything http://briandoerksen.com/caffeine/views/resources/pdf/You%20are%20everything.pdf

The best part of spiritual hunger is that there is always more than enough food to go around.
